Denver's sandwich is the burger. A granite marker on Speer Boulevard says Louis Ballast made the cheeseburger here in 1935, and the city still argues over who does it best, often with green chile on top. The Mexican hamburger, Denver's own patty-in-a-tortilla, is on the way.
