A big downtown diner on Curtis Street with a menu as long as your arm. Its take on the Mexican hamburger is the Green Chili Mexi-Burger: a patty and refried beans in a flour tortilla, smothered in the house pork green chili and topped with cheddar.
Sam's says it's been in business since 1927, and the diner still opens at breakfast time, 6 am on Thursdays and Fridays and 7 the rest of the week. If the Mexi-Burger is too much, the Red Number 3 Chiliburger gets the beef red chili, American cheese and diced onions instead. Hours here change a lot by day (it closes at 2 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays), so check before a late visit. There's a second Sam's on South Cherry Street in Glendale.
