Dutch Crunch Sub

A butcher shop on Taraval that Mark and Battista Guerra opened in 1954 and their family still runs. The deli counter turns out hefty sandwiches at reasonable prices, and the one to get is the Sicilian, thin-sliced hot coppa and salami, on a Dutch crunch roll.

The Pine Street outpost of Lou's, a small local sub chain with shops on Geary, Taraval and Battery Street and in San Carlos. The subs are stuffed with turkey, bacon and the classics, and the move here is the slightly spicy tuna melt on Dutch crunch, with extra jalapeño spread.

A small sub shop on Ocean Avenue, Deli World for close to 20 years before the current owner, who grew up nearby, took it over. The menu sticks to a handful of pre-built subs dressed with mustard, mayo and a tangy herb vinaigrette, and The Infatuation rates it the city's best sub.
