North Shore Roast Beef
Where to get a North Shore roast beef sandwich north of Boston, from Revere Beach up to Danvers and North Andover. It's rare roast beef sliced thin and piled on a grilled bun or an onion roll; order it "three-way" and you get barbecue sauce (James River is the classic), mayo and white American cheese.
North Shore roast beef traces back to Kelly's on Revere Beach, which says on its Our Story page (checked Oct 29, 2026) that it opened as a hot dog stand in 1951 and started selling roast beef sandwiches when a called-off wedding left the banquet hall next door with spare beef. Today the sandwich is sold at roast beef shops, sub-and-pizza counters and even a butcher shop all over the North Shore; the three listed here are in Revere, Danvers and North Andover.
