About

"The Sturgeon King" of the Upper West Side. Barney Greengrass started in Harlem in 1908, moved to Amsterdam between 86th and 87th in 1929, and still has the smoked-fish counter up front with a plain dining room behind it. Sandwiches come on a bagel, bialy, rye or pumpernickel, and you can pick Nova, salty old-style lox, or sturgeon.

Amenities

Dine-In Seating

Can't choose? The menu lets you put sturgeon and Nova on the same sandwich. The other order people come for is scrambled eggs with sturgeon and onions, which comes with a schmeared bagel. It's closed Mondays, and the dining room closes a little earlier than the counter on weekdays. They also ship smoked fish anywhere in the U.S.
