A walk-up window near the Parthenon, run by chef Eric "Red" White, who started out with a food truck. No bone-in birds here: tenders and boneless thighs soak in buttermilk for a day and a half before frying. For a sandwich, get the crunchwrap, with hot chicken, pimento mac and cheese and comeback sauce seared inside a tortilla.
Heat runs mild, medium, hot and Nashville fire; hot still lets you taste the smoky seasoning. There's a catfish sandwich too, if someone in your group would rather have fish. The hours are short and some days it closes mid-afternoon, so check before you go. You can carry your order next door to Springwater and have a beer with it.
