Bolton's Famous Hot Chicken & Fish – East Nashville

Signature Sandwich Hot whiting on white bread

About

A cinderblock hot chicken and fish shack on Main Street, opened in the 1990s by Bolton Matthews and his wife Dollye on his late uncle Bolton Polk's recipe. Order the fish: whiting or catfish, fried and dusted in the same spice as the chicken, on two slices of white bread with pickles.

The heat scale runs from non-spicy through lite mild, mild, medium and hot to extra hot, and it runs high: mild here already bites. The shop's own advice is to drink milk, not water. Whiting is the usual pick for hot fish; catfish is there if you prefer it. It stays open later on Friday and Saturday nights.
