A squat blue-and-white fish house near Fisk and Meharry that has been frying fish since 1972, in this building since 1993. The whiting sandwich is the order: forearm-length cornmeal-crusted fillets with hot sauce, mustard, pickles and onion between two slices of white bread that can't hope to cover them.
At lunchtime the drive-thru line wraps around the building, so come early or bring patience. Add a slice of cheese if you like, or swap in catfish. Spaghetti and red-skin potato salad are the sides, and strawberry cake finishes it. Eat it soon: the hot sauce and mustard soak through the bread fast. It's open Tuesday through Saturday.
