Joe Fassi Sausage & Sandwich Factory – The Hill

Signature Sandwich #1 Joe Fassi Combo; house-made meatballs and salsiccia

About

A family sandwich shop on Sublette where the sausage, meatballs and dressing are made in house. The menu runs to 28 numbered sandwiches; the shop's own popular picks are the #1 Joe Fassi Combo, the #15 Meat Ball and the #23 Aunt Jennie Salsiccia Stinger.

Joe Fassi's is about the house-made stuff: Italian sausage, salsiccia and meatballs from family recipes, plus its own salad dressing and a "Secret Sandwich Sauce" you can buy by the bottle. The Riverfront Times says hot sandwiches are the specialty, and Feast Magazine's Hill sandwich tour stopped here for the meatball. Frozen meatballs and salsiccia are sold to take home.

The family story on its website: Papa Paul Fassi started a grocery at this spot in 1926; Joe Fassi and his brothers worked in the business, and Joe's grandson Tom Coll took over in 1992. It's open every day, 10:30 to 4. For a party order, the shop asks for 24 hours' notice.
