Park Place Liquor & Deli – Coronado

The sandwich to know here is El Diablo. The deli's own menu builds it on a toasted torta roll with chicken, melted jack and cheddar, bacon, lettuce and a house sauce of chipotle, roasted garlic and mayo; ask for an extra cup of the sauce on the side. The Coronado Visitor Center calls it "award-winning," and San Diego Magazine put it on its list of the city's best liquor store sandwiches. The rest of the board runs to hot and cold sandwiches, kids' sandwiches and sides.

You can walk in, or order on the deli's own site for pickup or local delivery, or by phone or email. Sandwich trays are available for catering. The deli keeps shorter hours than the store: its site says sandwiches are served weekdays 7:30 am to 6:30 pm and weekends 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
