Where to buy a Submariner in Chicagoland

The Submariner has been Rolex's dive watch since 1953, and it's still the one most people picture when they hear the name. Across the city and suburbs there are two ways to get one.

New, from an Official Rolex Retailer. Chicagoland has seven:

  • Downtown: Razny Jewelers on Oak Street and the Rolex Boutique by Bucherer on Michigan Avenue.
  • North Shore & northwest: Razny in Highland Park and Persin & Robbin in Deer Park.
  • West: C.D. Peacock's Mansion at Oakbrook Center and James & Sons in Naperville.
  • Southwest: James & Sons in Orland Park.

A new watch bought from any of them carries Rolex's five-year international guarantee. The catch is demand: steel Submariners rarely sit in the case, so expect to register interest, wait, and build a relationship with the store. Having seven to choose from helps.

Pre-owned, from a reputable dealer. No waitlist, a wider range of references (including discontinued and vintage ones), and the watch you see is the watch you buy. Most of the official retailers above also sell Rolex Certified Pre-Owned, backed by a Rolex guarantee. For independent pre-owned, Jewelers Row on Wabash, the Michigan Avenue towers and Burdeen's in Buffalo Grove are the places to look.

The two current references

  • Submariner (no date), ref. 124060 – the cleaner, original look.
  • Submariner Date, ref. 126610 – adds the date window and Cyclops magnifier. Also offered in two-tone and gold versions.

Before you buy

  • Call ahead. Stock changes daily and many stores prefer appointments.
  • For pre-owned, ask about box and papers, service history, and the dealer's own warranty.
  • Bring your old watch if you're trading in; several dealers here buy or credit watches.
